Princess passengers are generally sophisticated but unpretentious. For longer sailings, most are baby boomers on the younger end of the retirement spectrum. They're satisfied with activities like trivia and enrichment lectures and don't necessarily need the high-tech or adrenaline-pumping amenities found on some modern ships. On shorter sailings, you'll find a slightly younger demographic and a significantly higher number of kids. Most Grand Princess passengers hail from the U.S., but you'll also find Canadian, British and Chinese contingents onboard.

Grand Princess passengers choose between open seating and two assigned dinner seatings; breakfast and lunch in all Princess restaurants are open seating. Alternative dinner venues include the reservations-only Sabatini’s Italian and Crown Grill restaurants (both with cover). The Wheelhouse Bar serves a pub lunch, and a grill and pizzeria offer casual snack choices. The ice cream bars and patisseries charge for premium ice cream and specialty coffee. A wine bar offers extra-charge artisan cheeses and evening snacks. Chef’s Table and Ultimate Balcony Dining options are also available, as is afternoon tea and room service.
While it looked great, it didn’t match the fantastic sushi we are accustomed to in Vancouver. Three colorful, modern spaces cater to young cruisers in three age groups through fun but educational programming that includes science experiments, games and crafts, among other offerings. Decks 16 and 17 are where sporty passengers will likely spend some of their time, playing shuffleboard on Deck 16 aft or practicing their short game on a nine-hole putting green on Deck 16 midship. (The ship also has a golf simulator, but it was out of order on our voyage.) There's a sports court on Deck 17 aft that's primarily used for basketball; free throw shootouts are scheduled on each sailing. The bow high tendency was specific to Grand Princess and did not affect her sister ships as they were designed with aluminum upper decks.
Whittier, Alaska
Passengers will find the shore excursions desk on Deck 7 midship. Outdoor pursuits are plentiful and include Movies Under the Stars, which feature popular recent titles and, at night, free popcorn and padded loungers with blankets. Films and concerts are shown at various times throughout the day, but when it's really spectacular is after the sun goes down -- when you're actually under the stars.

The Grand Princess cruise ship has three main dining rooms; Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Botticelli. You will be assigned one of these if you request a set dining time. Being an older vessel, the Grand Princess doesn’t have lavish multi-bedroom suites.

The other pool is covered, making it an ideal vessel for cold climate destinations like Alaska. Guests are limited to 15 beverages a day, and the cruise line bills any amount exceeding the price limit.
